Vercors in the heart of the buffer

Our values

Villard-de-Lans and Corrençon-en-Vercors are two villages with deep-rooted ties. Beyond the mere 6 kilometres that separate them, they share the same climate, an ideal altitude, fresh air and the gentle beauty of their mountain landscapes. Today, this historical and geographical bond is growing stronger through a shared ambition: to preserve this exceptional living environment through our eco-friendly commitments.

A destination two arts of living

Villard de Lans

Villard de Lans is the largest town on the Vercors ‘Plateau des 4 Montagnes’, but before it is a holiday resort, it is a village.

Villard de Lans enjoys an exceptional setting, offering a striking contrast between a protective fortress and a gentle mountain. It offers easy access to nature and landscapes of unrivalled beauty. This natural environment ensures a high quality of life at an ideal altitude, making year-round living on the plateau possible. These mountains create a reassuring atmosphere, ‘just like home’, and a unique, relaxed way of life.

Villard is a mountain resort for all seasons, a true laboratory for better living.

Corrençon-en-Vercors

Corrençon en Vercors is a charming village that has managed to retain its authentic character. Set amidst stunning natural surroundings, Corrençon serves as a gateway to the Haut Plateaux du Vercors Nature Reserve and the GR91 walking route.

The village of Corrençon enjoys a southerly aspect, evident in the surrounding landscape, particularly through the presence of pine trees. The mountainous terrain also offers an open, expansive view and a protective setting. The village is nestled in a small cirque, like a corner of the world with everything you need right on the spot. A true haven, a hidden and unassuming gem.

Discreet, yet dynamic, with its development in recent years in the world of sport, offering a wide range of activities: golf, biathlon, roller skiing, alpine and cross-country skiing…

Our commitments for sustainable tourism

Working together to protect the Vercors Massif.

Because the ideal altitude of Villard-de-Lans and Corrençon-en-Vercors is home to an ecosystem that is as beautiful as it is fragile, the Tourist Office is taking concrete action.
Working closely with the Massif du Vercors Community of Communes (CCMV), we are implementing practical measures to ensure your holiday is in harmony with the local environment.

You can download the full “Vercors Attitude” booklet, featuring valuable advice from our local experts, or pick up a free copy at the reception desks of our Tourist Information Offices!

 💧 Resource management & eco-friendly practices

Water flows naturally: In the Vercors, 80 per cent of the water flows underground. In the face of recurring droughts, we urge you to ‘water-optimise’ and use water sparingly.

Getting into the habit of sorting: Every year, 10,000 tonnes of waste are processed in the region (the equivalent of the weight of the Eiffel Tower!). To reduce the carbon footprint associated with transporting this waste to the lowlands, please use our Moloks (underground bins) to sort your packaging and compost your organic waste.

Zero litter: switch to a reusable water bottle, a bento box or reusable fabric wraps so you leave nothing behind on your hikes

 🚲 Sustainable & Shared Mobility

Never without my bus: To ensure you can start breathing in the fresh mountain air right from the journey itself, our destination is directly accessible by public transport (regular bus services) from Grenoble railway station.

Alternative ways to get around the heart of the plateau: Leave your car behind and make the most of our network of free local shuttle buses during the season, or take the ViaVercors, the first mountain cycle and walking route linking the local towns over 55 km.

A breath of fresh air for our listed sites: To ensure the long-term protection of the most sensitive areas, we encourage alternative access routes and restrict car traffic, as is the case at the Château Julien site.

 🌌 Biodiversity & Starry Skies

Stars in your eyes: The Vercors has been awarded the prestigious RICE (International Dark Sky Reserve) designation. By reducing the brightness of street lighting at night, our villages protect biodiversity whilst offering you an exceptional night sky.

We’re guests here, so let’s be considerate: From Roc Cornafion to the Hauts Plateaux, you’ll be passing through fragile natural habitats. Quiet zones have been established to protect endangered species such as the black grouse.

The mountains are not an amusement park: whether you’re on foot, on skis or on a bike, you must stay on the marked trails and follow the instructions of our eco-guards so as not to disturb the wildlife.

 🚜 Local economy & Solidarity

Discover the Vercors through local produce: Support our farmers and embrace our love of good food by meeting the dedicated producers behind the “Fermes du Vercors” brand – the perfect opportunity to sample the famous Bleu du Vercors-Sassenage AOP.

Better than leaving them in the cupboard: second-hand shopping. Give your clothes and sports kit a new lease of life through the social circular economy promoted by the Recyclerie de Villard-de-Lans or the Repair Cafés on the plateau.

A little extra for inclusion: we’re committed to ensuring that the mountains break down barriers and remain accessible and welcoming for people with disabilities.

Shared values

Shared skills and traditions, such as a sense of hospitality and warmth, a healthy lifestyle, and a commitment to quality. When you come to meet us, you’ll discover the authenticity of the people here, characterised by a love and respect for the mountains and their natural environment. But you’ll also enjoy wonderful encounters with open-minded people who value human connection. All this takes place within a vibrant culture of sport and the outdoors, allowing you to make the most of the outdoor activities on offer in the area around us.

Inspiring natural surroundings

Thanks to its unique setting in the gentle mid-mountain range, opening out onto plateaus, Villard/Corrençon is the ideal mountain destination. Easily accessible, treat yourself to a breathof fresh air and stunning scenery.

A vast playground where everything invites you to enjoy the great outdoors
