The 5 golden rules of bivouacking near Villard de Lans and Corrençon en Vercors

– Bivouacs are permitted from 5pm to 9am,
– Campfires are prohibited,
– Respect the fauna and flora around you,
– Don’t leave anything behind, take away all your rubbish and even other people’s rubbish if you need to,
– In the Vercors Park Nature Reserve, bivouacs are only permitted near huts and GR paths.

Hardware

To make sure you have a good night’s sleep and have nothing but fond memories, remember to pack all the equipment you’ll need for your bivouac.

Per person: a duvet, an inflatable mattress, warm clothes for the night, a headlamp and at least 2 litres of water per person.

For everyone: tent, stove with gas bottle and lighter, snacks and meals, rubbish bag, Swiss Army knife, first-aid kit, survival blanket, telephone with battery and a good paper and/or digital hiking map (watch out for the battery!).

If you’re with children, there’s nothing complicated about it, you’ll just need to carry a few extra things.

Where to bivouac?

Bivouacs are permitted around our 2 villages and in the Vercors High Plateaux Nature Reserve. However, this is only permitted between 5pm and 9am.

After that, it’s up to you to choose your place.

However, we advise you to plan your bivouac location in advance. You can bivouac in one of the unguarded huts (particularly if there are no more places inside), or in one of the many flat areas.

In the reserve: bivouacking is only permitted near the huts and GR paths.

It is important to bivouac in a place sheltered from the wind. You should also take care to respect the flora and fauna when choosing where to pitch your tent: check that there are no herds of animals, avoid pitching your tent on a carpet of flowers, etc.

The ideal location is:
secure, not too high up because of the temperatures, protected from the wind and preferably in a magnificent setting 😉
