Wildlife encounter around Villard de Lans and Corrençon en Vercors

Big blue skies, flowers in bloom, mountains out in the open – the hiking season is officially open in the Vercors Regional Nature Park! Well-shod (it’s essential), we’re venturing along the Col Vert loop in Villard-de-Lans, keeping an eye out for chamois, ibex and marmots. But keep a discreet distance, as these hairy specimens love peace and quiet as much as they love their mountains.

En route to Le Col Vert

To start the Col Vert loop, take the Collet des Clots path to the Fauge sheepfold and cross the pastures to Roybon. A stone’s throw away is a shepherd’s path that bears witness to the authenticity and art of living in the Vercors. Take the opportunity to open your eyes wide, because from here you can see ibex and chamois grazing in the heights.

Once you reach the shoulder, you’ll have a breathtaking view over Villard de Lans and Corrençon en Vercors , revealing a mountain valley that is emblematic of the Vercors massif. Leaving the splendid panorama behind, take the pleasant Péronnard path, bordered by the cliffs of the Arêtes du Gerbier. Finally, we head off in the direction of Roybon to get back to our starting point, where we can take a selfie with the local bear if we missed him on our arrival! To finish on a 100% gourmet and 100% local note, we’ll be sampling the organic goat’s milk cheeses from Le Pas de Côté farm, sold on site at Chemin de la Bonnetière.
