Destination of Excellence Award Join us in our commitment to quality and environmental responsibility in our region

The Villard-de-Lans / Corrençon-en-Vercors destination is committed to the national ‘Destination d’Excellence’ scheme (run by the State and AFNOR as the successor to ‘Qualité Tourisme’). This label promotes our region through two inseparable pillars: the quality of hospitality and a commitment to environmental responsibility.

To promote our region, this initiative relies directly on your involvement. Our Tourist Office can explain everything about the scheme, its benefits for your business and the steps you need to take to get started!

Our 8 pillars of commitment to the destination

As part of our preparations for the quality label, our Tourist Office is raising its standards. We invite you to share and help shape these very same values within your establishments:

    • An exceptional welcome: A friendly, warm and personalised service delivered with a smile.
    • Local expertise: An in-depth knowledge of the area and sharing our best-kept secrets with visitors.
    • Language skills: To welcome our international guests to the same high standard.
    • Accessibility and clarity: Reliable, verified and easy-to-find tourist information.
    • Environmental responsibility: An active approach to reducing our environmental footprint (energy, waste, water) and promoting sustainable tourism in the Vercors.
    • Active listening: Taking feedback and complaints on board as part of a process of continuous improvement.
    • Promoting local expertise: Showcasing our local producers, craftspeople, shopkeepers and service providers.
    • A unifying programme of events: Activities that encourage friendly interactions and respect our natural and cultural heritage.

Why get involved in the scheme?

In response to travellers’ growing expectations for more sustainable and authentic tourism, the Destination d’Excellence label is a real asset for your business:

    • A mark of trust and quality: You demonstrate a high standard of hospitality, comfort and customer satisfaction.
    • Showcasing your eco-friendly practices: You highlight your concrete actions (energy and water management, waste reduction, sustainable transport, local supply chains).
    • An advantage in terms of appeal and visibility: You benefit from priority promotion in the Tourist Office’s communications and on national portals.
    • Structured support: The scheme helps you to assess your current practices, unite your teams and establish a plan for continuous improvement.

Did you know?
The ‘Destination d’Excellence’ label is gradually replacing the ‘Qualité Tourisme’ scheme. It now mandatorily incorporates environmental sustainability criteria (energy efficiency, local roots, resource management) alongside the traditional criteria of hospitality and service.

How do you obtain the label?

The certification process is carried out entirely online, via a quick and straightforward procedure. A number of tools have been put in place to facilitate this process: tutorials to help you get to grips with the platform, a self-assessment tool to gauge your chances of obtaining the label, and equivalencies that allow you to benefit from a pathway to the ‘Quality’ and/or ‘Environmental Responsibility’ pillars of the assessment grid.

1Creating an account on the national platform:
  • Initial registration takes place on Atout France’s label management platform. Depending on your circumstances, there are two ways to create your account:

      • Independently: You select one of the approved assessment bodies of your choice directly.
      • With support: If you are being supported by a local partner (such as the Tourist Office), they can complete your registration on your behalf.
2Access to your course’s learning outcomes:
  • Once you have registered, you will have access to the criteria grids specific to your sector (accommodation, catering, leisure, tourist attractions, retail, etc.). Here you will find the requirements for the two essential pillars:

      • Quality Pillar: A minimum compliance rate of 85% is required for hospitality, service and the customer journey.
      • Environmental Responsibility Pillar: A minimum of 60 per cent compliance during the first audit (then 80 per cent upon renewal), with strict adherence to the mandatory criteria.
3Online self-assessment (recommended step):
  • You can carry out a self-assessment directly from your account on the platform. This interactive tool allows you to:

      • Measure your compliance rate in real time.
      • Identify your strengths and any areas for improvement.
      • Draw up your personalised action plan ahead of the official visit.
4Support & Pre-audit (Optional but recommended):
  • Before requesting the final audit, you can benefit from a preliminary on-site audit carried out with the help of your local representative (or partner). This ‘mock assessment’ allows you to verify that you meet the criteria and to clear up any remaining doubts with complete peace of mind.

5Mystery shopping & certification:
  • Once your application is ready, the accredited assessment body will schedule the final assessment:

      • For most sectors, the audit takes the form of a mystery visit carried out by a professional auditor.
      • If successful, you will be awarded the ‘Destination of Excellence’ label for a period of five years.
