Wildlife encounter around Villard de Lans and Corrençon en Vercors

Big blue skies, flowers in bloom, mountains out in the open – the hiking season is officially open in the Vercors Regional Nature Park! Well-shod (it’s essential), we venture out on the Col Vert loop in Villard-de-Lans, keeping an eye out for chamois, ibex and marmots. But keep a safe distance, as these hairy specimens love peace and quiet as much as they love their mountains.

En route to Le Col Vert

To begin this Col Vert loop, the Collet des Clots path leads to the Fauge sheepfold, crossing the pastures to Roybon. A stone’s throw away, a shepherd’s path testifies to the authenticity and art of living of the Vercors. It’s the perfect place to keep your eyes peeled for ibex and chamois grazing in the heights.

Once you’ve reached the shoulder, a breathtaking view of Villard de Lans and Corrençon en Vercors reveals a mountain valley emblematic of the Vercors massif. Leaving the splendid panorama behind, take the pleasant Péronnard trail, bordered by the cliffs of the Arêtes du Gerbier. Finally, we head off in the direction of Roybon to get back to our starting point, where we can take a selfie with the local bear if we missed him on our arrival! To finish on a 100% gourmet and 100% local note, we taste the organic goat cheeses from Le Pas de Côté farm, sold on site at Chemin de la Bonnetière.

The little green plus

For those in a hurry, dry toilets are available at the Roybon refuge. Hiking and a clear conscience go hand in hand in the Vercors, and here we appreciate it even more when it’s responsible!
