Sassenage Castle

Historic site and monument, Historic patrimony, Castle, 17th C, 18th C in Sassenage
  • Built between 1662 and 1669, the castle of Sassenage is the last residence occupied by the Bérenger-Sassenage family. A magnificent example of classical architecture, it still houses the family furniture, a testimony to the art of living in the 17th and 18th centuries.

  • The 17th century kitchen, the living rooms, the ceremonial rooms and the private apartments still house the family furniture. Furniture by the famous cabinetmakers Hache are part of this prestigious heritage.

The eight-hectare landscaped park, open to the public free of charge, offers a space conducive to daydreaming and family walks.
Since 1971, the castle has been the property of the Fondation de France and has two activities: a commercial service, for the organization of weddings, seminars and events, and a cultural service, conservation, enhancement and animation of the heritage. Several activities are suggested to discover the Domaine de Sassenage individually or in groups, and discover its secrets. The castle organizes guided tours on fixed dates for the individual public and all year round by reservation for groups.

Visits in English are possible upon reservation.
The castle and the park are open on public holidays when they correspond to the opening days of the cultural season, i.e.: Sundays from May to October; from Sunday to Thursday in July/August.
Picnics are not allowed in the park, nor are two-wheelers or pets. Depending on the demands of the commercial activity, the park may be privatized on certain days.
